The goal of this project is to reconnect the site to its natural landscape, a formal floodplain in Vancouver disrupted by urban development. The design manifests in several layers. A reference to the river's sedimental deposits, visible in the fine permeable gravel surfaces. The wetland vegetation mix of sedges, willow, native plants, shrubs, and conifers in the background. Floating elements break free from the suburban grid, offering an experience of being a guest in the landscape, visualizing the flux in nature. And last, the dwelling emerging from and hovering above the wetland soft landscape. The overall design emphasizes the need for a symbiosis between the built and natural environments.
